For example, Chapter CV, the act incorporating Trenton, states, "Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Tennessee, That the town of Trenton in the county of Gibson, and the inhabitants thereof, are hereby constituted a body politic and corporate by the style and name of the Mayor and Aldermen of the town of Trenton, and shall have perpetual succession, and by their corporate name may sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, grant, receive, purchase and hold real, personal and mixed estate, and dispose of the same for the benefit of said town and for that purpose alone, and may have a town seal... Passed December 4, 1835."
