Website FAQs

What is MTAS?

The Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) was created in 1949 to provide technical assistance to municipal governments within the state of Tennessee. MTAS's mission is to work with Tennessee municipalities to improve the lives of those they serve.

Where do I begin looking for assistance from MTAS?

Start with our municipal management consultants. These professionals work one-on-one with city officials to solve problems and answer questions.

A listing of MTAS staff assigned to your municipality is available on the city and town profiles.  Profiles can be found by selecting "Cities and Towns" from the "Directories" menu of the website.

Where can I find a sample document to get me started?

Most sample documents are located in the mknowledge section of the MTAS library database. You may use the website search to locate a sample or hop over to the library system at https://mrln.mtas.tennessee.edu/se/final/Portal.aspx?lang=en-US

Is there a listing of mayors that I can download?

Yes, navigate to the "Mayors" view by selecting "Municipal Staff" from the "Directories" menu of the website. To download the data, click on the PDF or Excel icons in the upper right-hand corner.

May I post a job vacancy on the MTAS website?

MTAS posts municipal job openings to assist customers with recruitment. Email the vacancy information to mtas@tennessee.edu. Job postings will added to the website within 48 hours and are displayed for 60 days. There is no charge for this service.
