Municipal Courts Manual

This guide was developed for Municipal Courts with the authority to enforce municipal ordinances.

Some cities in Tennessee exercise concurrent General Sessions Court criminal jurisdiction. That is, they have the same authority as a state General Sessions Court and can hear cases involving state law violations as well as municipal ordinance violations. This guide will not attempt to address the procedures or requirements of courts with concurrent General Sessions jurisdiction.
