Sprinkler system requirement for all new construction

MTAS was asked, "Can a city require all new construction to contain sprinkler systems?" The answer is generally yes. Under its police power a municipality has the broad authority to adopt rules and regulations that promote the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the municipality. Fire safety is certainly within a municipality's police powers.
