Lead exposure is a well-recognized public health concern. Historically, lead has been used in a variety of manufacturing processes, from lead pipes to gasoline. Several states have adopted or proposed more stringent regulations on lead in drinking water (Michigan, Ohio) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing a major overhaul of the 1991 Lead and Copper Rule (LCR).
