TML News - The TML board of directors met Friday, November 17 in the Brentwood Municipal Library. First, sitting as the Legislative Committee they approved (with a couple of minor amendments and additions) all the recommendations of the policy committees. I will send you a copy of the amended policies when we receive them.

Then, the board reconvened in a special board meeting to consider the recommendation of the executive director search committee. President Jerry Sharber (Mayor of Franklin) reported that the search committee had met Monday, November 13. It had intended to narrow the number of applicants from the 38 received (2 from outside Tennessee) to five. Instead, the committee was recommending that the process be extended and obtain outside assistance in the search process. Mayor Sharber suggested that the extended process could take until March.

After a long discussion, the board determined that it was critical to have a new executive director in place by January 1, 2001. The board asked the search committee to return to its original schedule and have a recommendation for the board before the end of December. (I've been told since the meeting that the search committee will meet to make a recommendation on December 14.)

Finally, after the board meeting, the board hosted a small reception for Suzette Denslow. I presented her a "lifetime MTAS library card" and a pin that Mike, Sharon, and I bought as a parting gift from MTAS .
