This one's a little interesting. I'm entering it remotely from Washington, DC where I'm taking a class with the American Management Association. I hope it doesn't show the effects of travel (the news - not the class).

Freebies - All of our publications and websites are free to Tennessee cities and some other organizations. Carol maintains the list and she and I wanted to let you know who's on it.

Please let Carol know if you have any comments or suggestions.

Sick Leave Bank - UT has a system to share sick leave among employees. It requires that both the donor and the donee be members of the sick leave bank. Currently, there are 1,227 out of the some 14,000 UT employees who are members. It can be very helpful if you or someone you know must miss a lot of work because of illness. You may want to consider joining. Please contact SharonM for details.

Pagers - Part of our plans for 1999 include pagers for all those who travel. If you don't have your pager yet, please let SharonM know so we can order one for you.

TML District meetings - Each year TML conducts eight district meetings. So far, we have had five with three more this week. In each district, we have had one of the biggest crowds this year. City officials have been very positive in their discussions of the TML strategic plan. They also have been very receptive to our plans for MTAS in 1999.

Recruiting - We have four positions open.
  • Data Integrity Clerk - to work in Knoxville maintaining the Government Mailing List, distributing publications, and working with other databases.
  • Training Consultant - to coordinate our training program for city officials. We will schedule interviews in December.
  • Management Consultant - we have two openings. One in Jackson to serve the northwest part of the state - MikeP will retire early in 1999. The other will be in Knoxville and will serve the plateau area. Joe will be join the TML Bond Fund in January, 1999. It's not going to be possible to replace either MikeP or Joe, but we have to try.
