Good Afternoon MTAS,

Last week I told you a lot about the TML conference that ended June 12. Those were almost all of my highlights for last week; therefore, I have little to share now. Therefore, I hope you enjoy the brevity of this week’s Mustard.

June 14 th (last Thursday) was Flag day. In honor of that, here are a few flag facts from the Smithsonian Institute (
https://www.si.edu/spotlight/flag-day/flag-facts
):
· Flag Resolution of June 14, 1777 - stated: "Resolved: that the flag of the United States be made of thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new Constellation."
· Act of January 13, 1794 - provided for 15 stripes and 15 stars after May 1795.
· Act of April 4, 1818 - provided for 13 stripes and one star for each state, to be added to the flag on the 4th of July following the admission of each new state.
· Executive Order of President Taft dated June 24, 1912 - established proportions of the flag and provided for arrangement of the stars in six horizontal rows of eight each, a single point of each star to be upward.
· Executive Order of President Eisenhower dated January 3, 1959 - provided for the arrangement of the stars in seven rows of seven stars each, staggered horizontally and vertically.
· Executive Order of President Eisenhower dated August 21, 1959 - provided for the arrangement of the stars in nine rows of stars staggered horizontally and eleven rows of stars staggered vertically.

Next week is the MTAS staff retreat. The conference planning committee will be sending you a full agenda this week, along with information about the hotel. I am looking forward to seeing everyone together and hearing a few stories about your adventures across the state.

Please don’t forget the Securing the Human training that everyone needs to complete by October 1, 2018. Here is a snippet from the original email telling us about the cyber security training:

Online Security Training Starts May 1
The Securing the Human learning assignment will be activated Tuesday, May 1 for all IPS staff in K@te.

Staff may access K@te by visiting
https://kate.tennessee.edu/
and selecting the “Log in with your NetID and password” option.

Each staff member will be required to complete the opening and the concluding module. In between, there are 20 modules to choose from with at least 10 required to proceed to the concluding module.

Each module ends with a two-question quiz.

Completion of this learning assignment is due October 1. One hour of professional development credit will be awarded upon completion. There is also a certificate available for staff to download once they complete the training.

If you have any questions about this cybersecurity training please call Lisa Shipley or Scott Gordy.

Also, here’s another reminder about the LEIC auction going on right now (through June 26). Here’s a link:

Finally, we had two birthdays last week that I’d like to celebrate: Rex on June 11 and Dennis on June 14. Happy birthday guys! I hope you both have a terrific year ahead. Here’s a quote from my daily planner from Saturday: “Youth is a circumstance you can’t do anything about. The trick is to grow up without getting old.” – Frank Lloyd Wright.

Please be safe in traveling to Franklin next week. I really am excited to see you and spend time with you.
Margaret
