We are pleased to announce the next group of participants in our IPS Leadership Academy. The 14 IPS employees listed below are the cohort that will make up Leadership Academy IV. As you will see, class members represent each agency and unit of the Institute.

Over 40 nominations were made by employees. During 2017 and 2018, these fourteen participants will visit the various campuses of the University of Tennessee and meet with a host of subject matter experts and customers to discuss various issues within the realm of leadership and public service. The IPS Leadership Academy embodies the principle that leadership can be learned and refined when we dedicate focused time and effort to learning the theory, skills and behaviors associated with effective leadership. Or, as Barry Posner said in a 2009 Journal of Leadership Education article, “Developing leaders is not the result of wishful thinking, reading a book, or taking a class. Developing leaders is the result of determined doing, from the inside out.” Leadership Academy provides a framework for those who desire to further develop their leadership capabilities.

I commend each participant for accepting the challenge to successfully complete the reading, coursework and projects geared toward further leadership development within the institute. Please join me in congratulating the upcoming IPS Leadership Academy Class of 2018:
