Good afternoon MTASers,

As you know, June 1 is the first day of the new organizational chart. There are a few other updates I wanted to tell you about. First are three new positions that have been approved in the upcoming fiscal year budget. One is a training consultant in west TN. There has been increasing demand for work on that end of the state and there is potential to be tapped there as well. Another is a training consultant for CMFO. After listening to you last fall in the one-on-one sessions, it became apparent that the CMFO program needs additional resources. As conceived, one person will handle the reviewing/updating the training materials and course delivery. This will free the finance consultants to consult, be in the field, and to develop and deliver much-craved financial courses outside of CMFO. The third position is a second police management consultant. Currently there is only one police management consultant, with a territory of the entire state. We moved to multiple fire management consultants several years ago, and now is the time for multiple police management consultants.

Next, I want to let you know that we have two new hires with start dates. Johanna Owenby will start with us June 11. She will be filling the vacancy created by PJ’s retirement. The other new hire is Joe Cosentini and he’ll start with us during the MTAS retreat in Franklin. Joe will be filling the vacancy created by Jeff’s retirement. We are still in the recruitment phase in David’s search. We’ve had many new hires since we’ve had many retirements. I look forward to us all getting together in June and for you to have a chance to meet your new coworkers. Particularly the ones from other offices.

Heraclitus of Ephesus is credited with the saying that the only thing constant is change. Personnel is no exception to this rule. However, I’d like to think that our top notch quality of employees is pretty darn constant. Our customers demand and expect it; and a “diverse and highly skilled workforce” is one of our goals. You are a wealth of information and key to us delivering products and services to our customers. Let’s make sure that the new employees grasp this part of our culture at MTAS.

Thank you for your service,
Margaret
