Effective July 1, 2018, the Tennessee Foreign Language Institute will become the Tennessee Language Center (TLC) and will officially become part of The University of Tennessee (UT) where it will be located in the UT Institute for Public Service. TLC will become the sixth agency of IPS.

The

legislation that authorized this transfer
eliminates the Tennessee Foreign Language Institute’s governing board, transfers its resources and assets to UT and renames it the Tennessee Language Center (TLC). Under this new arrangement, the center’s primary mission is providing language services to state and local government entities in support of industrial recruitment, economic development and provision of government services.

The TLC has 18 full-time employees who will remain in the center’s Nashville’s office. Just like IPS, TLC uses a number of contract employees. As with our existing agencies, the language center will have a director, and will use all of the resources available through the administration office.

I’m looking forward to adding depth to the number of outstanding services we already offer to our customers. The center’s employees will be participating in our annual conference July 31 and August 1 in Knoxville. I hope you will join me in welcoming them to IPS.
