IPS Family Campaign Kickoff Breakfasts <> The breakfast for the Knoxville and Johnson City staff is Wednesday, April 12 at 7:30 a.m. on the fourth floor. The breakfast for the Nashville, Martin, and Jackson staff is Thursday, April 13 at 7:30 a.m. in the Music City Sheraton near the airport on I-40. You need to RSVP by Wednesday, April 5.

MTAS Video Staff Meeting CANCELLED <> We had a video staff meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 11, but I don't have enough to say so I've cancelled it.

Notes Update <> Our plan called for Notes to be on everyone's desk by March 31, 1995. It took us two months to receive new file servers so we are a little off schedule. Notes will be installed on everyone's computer by May 1. We will convert Project Tracking to Notes by July 1.

We will use Hewlett Packard file servers; one in Knoxville and one in Nashville. West Tennessee (Martin and Jackson) will be connected through the newly installed T-1 line to the Knoxville server. The way the UT statewide network runs, the connection between Knoxville and Jackson is quicker than between Jackson and Nashville. In fact, there is no direct connection between Nashville and Jackson; they both go through Knoxville. If we find that our response time to West Tennessee is less than we expect, we will purchase another Notes server for Jackson. The two servers will communicate with each other so everyone will have access to current data.

MTAS Retreat <> I'm planning a two and a half day MTAS retreat. All consultants need to reserve May 10, 11, and 12 on their calendars. It will be similar to our retreat three years ago at Paris Landing. We will spend most of the time training ourselves. We'll be at Montgomery Bell State Park near Dickson. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for items to add to our retreat agenda. Thanks.

Congratulations <> Carol Hewlett tells me that two MTAS publications made the list of "Notable Tennessee Documents of 1994" designated by the Tennessee Library Association. They are: 1) The GISt of GIS: The Geographic Information System Handbook by Becky Crowder, and 2) Special Censuses: Ruminating about Enumerating also by Becky.

They were selected based on the criteria including "to recognize excellence in Tennessee government publications and to recognize individual efforts that produce that excellence..." Of course, applause goes also to SharonF and Mary for the high standards they have set for our publications. We've made the list at least two years in a row now!
